Helpers of the Day this week were Gloriana, Ishan, Jaclyn, Joseph, and Julie.
READING
Ms. Aa A'Choo came to visit. Some of her favorite people and things are: Alex, Almeida, Aylward, Apples, animals, and amphibians. We read the story Bunny Cakes this week. It was about Max and Ruby who were making their grandmother a birthday cake. Max was a very clumsy bunny and kept dropping thing on the floor. We colored things that began with Aa and practiced writing the letter Aa. We also wrote words that had at in them ex. bat, cat. mat, etc. We also read A was once an apple pie. It is an alhpabet book with lots of rhyming. Our sight words are I and am. The other sight words are a, at can, and the.
Language
We are still working on verbs. We talked about activities that both people and animals do and wrote sentences. We also drew pictures.
Math
We are still working on our numbers. We have been doing patterns: AB, AAB, ABB, and AABB. We used cubes, bears, fish, insects, etc top make our patterns. It was awesome.
Science
We are still learning about animals. We learned about animals with and without backbones, what animals live in the desert, forest, ponds, and how animals get around(fly, hop, run, or swim).
Things to know
The bake sale is tomorrow. Costs are $.25 and $.50. Raffle tickets are $.25 each or 5 for $1.00.
Field trip money is due tomorrow October 19, 2007. The cost is $15. Please sign and return permission slip with money. If we do not get money or permission slip your child will not be able to go.
Specials we had this week: Art, Library, Health, Computers, and Gym.

Helpers of the week: Kamrin, Kiara, Kohtaro, Kyle, and Megan.
Reading
We reviewed the letters M, B, T, S, F, and A.
We colored different things that began with those letters. We did cut and paste, small books, and drew thing that began with those letters.
Math
We are still working on numbers. This week we started drawing different shapes. One day was triangles, then squares, and circles. We made designs and did patterns with these shapes.
Science
We finished up our unit on animals. We learned that animals live in different homes and some build their own homes. Animals live on farms, in houses, and in zoos. Animals change as they grow. The next unit we study is Plants.
Reminder
Field trip is Friday. Please listen to the weather and dress you child accordingly. Please pack a small snack (a drink and something else)in a paper bag labeled with their name. We will be back for lunch at the school.
Halloween parade is Wednesday, October 31, 2007. It is at 1:45. Please send your child's costume in a bag labeled with their name. We are looking for a few parents to help put the children's costumes on. If you can help be at the school around 1:20. Reminder you need a cori check in order to help out. thanks
Also, I have enclosed in the blue folder, a form to fill out for parent/guardian conferences. Please fill out and return ASAP. I have meetings before and after school. Let me know what mornings or afternoons you are available.

Helpers of the Day: Alex, Brianna,Caroline, Christo, and Gloriana.
Reading
Ms. Pp Pointy Patches came to visit this week. Some of her favorite people and things are: Peter, pennies, pigs, and pepperoni pizza! We read the story "Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse". It is about a mouse who wants to be a teacher. She loves school and her teacher. She goes shopping with her Grandmother and gets a purple plastic purse, movies star glasses and some quarters. We also read Pete's a Pizza. It was a funny story. The sight words are like and is. The other sight words are a, at, can, the, I, and am.
Language
We continued writing sentences. We talked about a telling sentence and wrote some of our own. We also drew pictures to go with these sentences.
Math
Still working on shapes, patterns, and numbers.
Science
We have been working on our plant unit. We learned that plants come in all sizes and shapes. Plants have 4 parts: roots, a stem, leaves, and flowers. Also that leaves are alike and different. Many plants have seeds inside their fruit. We also picked leaves and sorted them.
Things to know
There is no school on Monday, November 12, 2007.
Next week letter is Nn. Please send in pictures that begin with that letter.
Please send in coffee cans (11.5 oz) the small ones we are doing a project for Thanksgiving.
Please listen to the weather and dress your child accordingly. Everyone should be wearing a coat or sweatshirt to school.

Helpers of the Day: Kyle, Megan,Michael, Peter, Sam, Tayler, Victoria, Alex, Brianna, and Caroline.
Reading
Last week Mr Ii impossible inches came to visit. Some of his favorite people and things are: Ishan, igloos, iguanas, ink, ice cream, and invitations. We read the story "Ginger". It was a story about a cat who got a new playmate. The little girl who took care of him didn't give the kitten his own dish and bed. So Ginger had to share and he got upset and left home. The little girl found him and gave the kitten his own bed and bowl. Ginger and the kitten ended up being good friends. We also made it and ig words like: sit , kit, fit, big, twig etc. We also read a story about ice cream bear.
This week Mr. Hh Happy Hair came to visit. Some of his favorite things are; hamburger, hats,helicopters, horses, and horns. We read a silly story called "Mrs. McNosh Hangs Up Her Wash". Mrs. McNosh hangs up a lot of silly things like, her dog, her mail, and her turkey that she is going to cook.
New sight words are but and it. The other sight words are like, is, a, at, can, the, I, and am.
Math
We started doing a number 1 one Book. We have been using geoboards, writing number 1, coloring 1 things,and adding 1 thing to the pictures . We are counting every day. We counted to 62 today. We also count by 5's and 10's.
Science
We have just finished up the unit on plants. We talked about the life cycle of a plant. It is the seed, sprout, seedling, and full grown plant.
We also talked about what food and things we get from plants and animals. We get milk, cheese, hamburgers, chicken, clothing, fruits and vegetables.
Things to Know
Please dress your child according to the weather. If they wear boots to school, please be sure to pack their sneakers or shoes.
Come January all students should be able to tie their own shoes. If they do not please work with your child.
Winter vacation starts Friday,December 21st ,there is a half day of school with lunch served. We come back from vacation on Wednesday, January 2, 2008.

READING
This week Ms. Funny Feet came to visit. Some of her favorite things are fruit, fudge, fun and french fries. We read the story Follow the Leader. It is about 2 polar bears that play follow the leader. The pictures are fantastic. We colored things that began with Ff, practiced writing Ff and read the stories "Fidgety Fish" and "Farm Flu". Sight words this week are " I and am". Our other sight words are the, can, a and at. Please practice these words with your child.
Language
We have been writing sentences about things that we do, verbs. I can run. I can skip. These are just a few things we can do. We also reviewed what nouns are - person, place or thing.
Math
We are still working on our numbers 1-10. We worked on tallies and graphing. We also sorted the things we graphed. It was fun.
SCIENCE
We have been learning about types of animals. This week we talked about mammals, birds, reptiles, fish, insect, and amphibians. We know facts about each type.
We made a collage for each animal type. They are hanging in the hallway.
Things to know
FIELD TRIP to Smolak Farms on Friday, October 26th. All money is DUE by Ocotber 19, 2007. The cost is $15. Please let me know if you another permission slip.
Please listen to the weather the day of the field trip and dress your child accordingly.
Birthdays
Last week, Julie celebrated her birthday. Happy Birthday Julie!
Ashley our high school helper celebrated her birthday on Thursday of this week. Happy Birthday Ashley!
In the month of September, Caroline celebrated her birthday. Happy Birthday Caroline!
REMINDER Kindergarten bake sale is on Friday, Ocotber 19. The money raised will help defer costs of a future field trip. Please be sure to send in your item for the bake sale and label it if it contains NUTS. Raffles are $.25 each or 5 for $1.00.

Reading
Mr. Nn Noisy Nose came to visit this week. Some of his favorite things are: necklaces, nuts, newspapers, November, and nests. We read the story "No, No, Titus". I was about a dog who came to work on a farm but he couldn't figure out what his job was suppose to be. He finally figured it out. It was to protect the farm from wild animals. There were 2 new sight words for the week : big and in. The other sight words are: like, is, a, at can, the I, and am.
Language
We still doing sentences. We talked about telling sentences and have introduced asking sentences. We wrote some questions and drew some pictures.
Math
Still working on numbers, shapes,and patterns.
Science
Still working on the unit of plants. We learned that seeds make patterns, plants need air, water, light, and soil. They also need a place to grow. Plants also have a life cycle (seed, sprout, seedling, and full grown plant).
Social Studies
We have been learning about Thanksgiving. We learned about the Pilgrims and what they went through the first year they were in America.
We also learned about the Native Americans who helped the pilgrims Massasoit and Squanto
Things to Know
On Wednesday, November 21, 2007 dismissal will be at 12 noon. NO LUNCH will be served. We will return to school on Monday, November 26, 2007.
After Thanksgiving, the next letter will be Ii. Please send in pictures that begin with that letter.

Reading
Mr. Colassal Cap came to visit this week. Some of his favorite people and things are: Caroline, carrots, cats, cheese burgers, and cake. We read the story "Cat's Colors". The story is about what is cat's favorite color. It is orange, the color of her mother. We also read "Chameleons are Cool". It gave us information about chameleons. New sight words for the week are like and is. The other sight words are: a, at can the, I, and am.
Language
This week we are working on writing sentences. We talked about how a sentence begins and ends. Some sentences begin with a capital letter and end with a period.
Math
We are still working on shapes and numbers. The shapes are squares, rectangles, ovals, triangles, and circles.
Science
We started working on our plant unit. There are different types of plants: grasses, trees, shrubs and flowers which are parts of a plant. We also planted seeds for a dwarf christmas tree. We will watch it grow through out the year. We are also doing an experiment with 2 carnations. We have one in blue water and one in red water. We are recording the changes that are going on.
Things going on
We had fun marching around during our halloween parade. We also had a great time at our halloween party. A special thanks to Mrs. Leydon for setting up our party. Also thanks to all parents who sent in goodies.
A special HAPPY BIRTHDAY to KYLE who turned six on October 30th.

Reading
Last week we did a review on some of the letters we had already learned. This week Ms. Longest Laugh came to visit. Some of her favorite people and things are: Leydon, lions. lobster, learning, leopards, lemons, and language. We read the story "Looking for Crabs". It is about a family on vacation that are looking for crabs in a tide pool. They looked and looked and they did not find any. We also read a story called "Chewy Louie". It was about a puppy who chewed everything. We also read the story "Lunch". It was a story about a mouse who was very hungry. Some of the things he ate were peas,corn, carrots, orange, turnip, and grapes to mention a few. He took a nap. Then it was time to eat dinner.
New sight words this week: see and look. The other sight words are: like, is, a, at , can, the , I , but, am, big, in, and it. Please go over these word with your child.
MATH
We are still working on numbers. We are also working on measurement. We measured things using snap cubes, inches, links, interstar links, and paperclips. We had lots of fun. We measure some students using these items.
Science
We learned that the Earth's surface is made up of land, water, and air. The earth is a planet. We have been learning about types of land forms: volcanos, valleys, plains, and mountains. Plants, wind, and water can change the Earth's land. Sometimes it is a slow change and sometimes it s a fast change.
We have also been learning about penguins. They are a flightless bird. Instead of flying they use their wings to swim. They also walk upright but some times they slide on their bellies. We learned about the adelie, chinstrap, and the emperor penguins. The emperor is the largest and the adelie is one of the smallest penguins.
Things to Know

If your child is sick you have to call the office to tell the secretary that your child will be absent.
You also need to send in a note to me stating why your child was absent.
Also Monday, January 21 is a holiday there will be NO school. |
